James O. "Jimmy, Jim" Cuthbertson, Jr.
Funeral Date: 12/13/2009

James O. (Jimmy, Jim) Cuthbertson, Jr., 68, of Warren, AR., died at home on December 11, 2009 of cancer. Born June 30, 1941 in Warren, AR, he was the son of the late James O. Cuthbertson and Kathleen Creed Cuthbertson. He is survived by one sister, Carolyn C. Sanford and spouse, Charles Carlin of Northfield, MN; three brothers, John Cuthbertson and spouse, Gingy; Robert Cuthbertson and spouse, Denise, and Chuck Cuthbertson of the SEARK Human Development Center, all of Warren; and several nieces and nephews. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Warren. He was a graduate of Warren High School, Class of 1959, where he participated in all varsity sports and went on to graduate from Henderson State University with both bachelor and master's degrees in coaching and art. He began his coaching (football and track) and teaching career in Mercedes, Texas and continued for 40 plus years at several high schools and colleges in Texas, Louisiana, Missouri, Minnesota, and Florida. He was gifted as a coach and beloved by many as a mentor. He was possessed by a passion for teaching and guiding athletes, developing in them self discipline, teamwork, and respect for others. He was always the coach who had a few minutes after practice for that extra workout or special words of advice and formed lasting relationships with many of them. He was the organizer and creative force behind many childhood memories. From lining the backyard with flour to create a football field to designing custom tee shirts for the NBL (National Backyard League, a whiffle ball and basketball group), the Cuthbertson backyard was a magnet for many young men while Jimmy ran the show! Stricken with severe rheumatoid arthritis he returned to Warren and pursued several hobbies. He served as a volunteer track and field coach for the Warren Schools during which time the girl's teams won two state titles. He was an early proponent of Title IX and was inducted into the Lumberjack Hall of Fame for his volunteer work. His love of antique toys and model trains formed new friendships as he traveled across the country to various shows. Affectionately known as "Santa Claus" because of his white beard and hair, he assembled a collection to rival Santa. Other hobbies included his love of classic cars, reading, old television shows and movies. He could remember minute details in each and loved pointing them out time and time again. Funeral services were Sunday, December 13, at 1:30 p.m. in Frazer's Chapel with Rev. Gary Maskell officiating. Linda Barrett was organist and soloist was Jim Wheeler. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery by Frazerís Funeral Home. Active pallbearers were Carlton Davis, Doug Spencer, Zack Plair, Bob Laster, Mark McClellan, Eddie Brown, Sam Russell and Dr. Joe H. Wharton. Honorary pallbearers were Charles Carlin, Travis Creed and Charles Creed. Memorials may be made to Donald W. Reynolds YMCA, 207 N. Main, Warren, AR 71671, First United Methodist Church, 111 W.
