Katherine Ann Dowel Tarleton

Katherine Ann Dowell Tarleton, age 84 died on June 19, 2009 at Bradley County Medical Center. She was born December 6, 1924 the daughter of the late Katherine Meek Dowell of Warren and the late Herbert Lee Dowell of Shreveport, La. She graduated from Warren High School in 1942 and from Garrett's School of Business in Nashville, Tn. In September 1942, She accepted a position at the age of 17 in the accounting department of the Bradley Lumber Company under the management of E.F. Paulus Sr. On January 1, 1946 she married Ralph "Speed" Tarleton at the First Presbyterian Church in Warren. The couple was married for 61 years. She was an avid bridge player and the club she belonged to was formed in 1946. Surviving original members are Helen Sangster, Shirley Godwin, and Dorothy Wisner. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Warren and the Friendship Sunday School class. She retired from Robbins Inc. in 1992 after 30 years of service with the company originally named Sykes Flooring Co., under the ownership of Sykes Harris Sr. She was preceded in death by her husband who died October 27th, 2007. She was also preceded in death by her brother James Franklin Dowell Sr and her maternal grandparents Elizabeth McFadden Meek and James Franklin Meek. She is survived by a daughter Meredith Stoecker of Malvern, a son Ralph Bruce Tarleton and spouse Kelly Tarleton of Corpus Christi, TX, three grandchildren, Katrina Gangluff of Bryant, Eric Stoecker of Malvern and Christopher Tarleton of Houston, six great grandchildren, Austin, Katie, Zaine, Aubrey, Wesley, and McKenzie, two sisters-in- law, Patricia Dowell, Little Rock, Ark. and Alleen Tarleton McKimmey, Warren, Ark. Funeral services were 10:00AM Wednesday, June 24th at Frazerís Chapel with Rev. Gary Maskell officiating. Linda Barrett was organist. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery by Frazerís Funeral Home. Active pallbearers were James F. Dowell, Jr., Austin Rowe, Eric Stoecker, Christopher Tarleton, Bill Wisener, Tommy Maxwell, Roger George and Bruce Wright. Honorary pallbearers were Helen Sangster, Dorothy Wisener, Betty Sangster, Una Fort, Christine Jayne, Billie Boyd, Sara Sharp and Shirley Godwin.

We lived on Munn Street about a block away from her parents where she lived at that time. Katherine was a beautiful person inside and out. I'm so privileged to have known her.
