Loyd Marcus Norton
Funeral Date: 5/2/2009

Loyd Marcus Norton of Little Rock Arkansas, formerly of Warren Arkansas, passed away April 28, 2009 while surrounded by his family. The son of Voy Russell and Lula Mae Norton, he was born on December 7, 1931. Loyd graduated from New Edinburg High School in 1949 and Radio School in Port Arthur, Texas in 1953. He joined the U.S. Army in 1951 where he distinguished himself by receiving the U.S. Army’s Sharpshooter Carbine Expert Rifle Medal Award. He was later deployed to the front lines of the Korean War from 1952 to 1953 where he proudly served as an Army Medic helping wounded soldiers in the midst of battle. He had a passion for music and frequently shared his gift with his fellow servicemen by entertaining them with his vast repertoire of songs and guitar music. He continued his service to his country as a Reservist in the U.S. Army Reserve until December 1959. Before shipping off to Korea, he married Christine Forrester on July 20, 1952. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Warren and their Friendship Sunday School Class and the Golden Agers. Loyd is survived by his wife, Christine F. Norton of Little Rock; three daughters, Chrystal Corcoran of Oceanside California, Candace Norton of Little Rock, and Camille Norton of Maumelle; one son, Kelly Norton of Evanston, Illinois; son-in-law, Brandt Corcoran of Oceanside California; two grandchildren, Evan and Sean Corcoran of Oceanside, California; siblings, Dorothy Wright of El Dorado, Travis Norton of Calmer, Marnelle Clement of Pine Bluff, sister-in-law Pat Norton of Calmer, sister- and brother-in-law Jean and Virgil Wade of Lubbock, Texas; brother-in-law Tom Mullins of St. Louis, Missouri, four nephews and five nieces. Loyd was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother Lissie Norton, brother Voy Ray Norton, sister Joyce Mullins, and grand niece Haley Addison. Loyd owned and operated Warren TV Sales and Service for over 30 years. He enjoyed hunting using guns, bow and arrow, and muzzle loading rifles. He was an excellent hunter often providing his family with the fruits of his hunts. He was also the proud winner of the Warren Archery Club's 'Biggest Buck' Award. Before becoming a proficient bow deer hunter, Loyd enjoyed competitive archery. He was a member of the Arkansas Archery Club and won many trophies and medals in outdoor and indoor competitions. His archery skills were so good that during one match he actually scored a “Robin Hood,” where you split your arrow that is already in the target with the next arrow you shoot. Loyd also loved music and was an amateur historian of Country and Western music. Even at the end of his life, he could hear only a few notes of a song and be able to tell you the name of the song and the artist. Loyd's favorite music to listen to was the legendary Western and Swing band leader Bob Wills. There were many Sunday mornings his family woke up to the 'aaah haah' of Bob Wills' records. Loyd also loved singing and playing the guitar for himself, his family, his church, strangers, and frontline troops during his deployment as a medic in the Korean War. His love for family, friends, and music will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. Funeral services were 2:00 p.m. Saturday May 2, Frazer’s Chapel with Rev. Randy Murphy and Rev. James Wilson officiating. Linda Barrett was organist and soloist was Kathy Morman. Burial with flag presentation was in Wesley Chapel Cemetery near Calmer, AR. by Frazer’s Funeral Home. Active pallbearers were Voy Ray Norton, T.A. Norton, Chuck Wright, H.V. Gill, Wayman Mann and David King. Honorary pallbearers were James Kitchen, Larry Wherry, J.W. Baker, Odell Wolfe, Michael Padilla, Jimmy King and Bobby Barnes.
