Obituary:
H.O. “Sonny” Splawn, Jr., age75, of Warren, AR. died Thursday February 19, at Bradley County Medical Center. He was born November 19, 1933 in Little Rock, AR. a son of the late H.O. Splawn, Sr. and Muzette Hudson Splawn. Also, preceding him in death was his beloved Alaskan Malamute Maks. He was a graduate of Hampton High School, earned a bachelor’s degree from Arkansas A&M, and a masters degree from University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. He taught at Hampton High School, Warren High School and Woodlawn High School. He was superintendent of the New Edinburg School District and the Banks School District, retiring as an adult education instructor at SEABEC in Warren, AR. and member First United Methodist Church of Warren. Surviving is his wife Joye Johnson Splawn whom he married October 1, 1954. 2 sons Harvey Splawn, III. and spouse Marilyn, Camden, Ar., Ben Splawn and spouse Delaina, Warren, AR. 1 daughter Paula Splawn, Pine Bluff, AR. 4 grandchildren Landon Splawn, Kaley Splawn, both of Warren, AR., Benjamin Cagle and spouse Amanda, Natchitoches, LA., Brittany Cagle, Camden, AR. 1 great grandchild Cypress Cagle, Natchitoches, LA. Mother in law Zilla Mae Johnson, Pine Bluff, AR. Graveside services were 3:30 p.m. Sunday February 22, at Oakland Cemetery. Memorial service was 4:00 p.m. Sunday February 22, First United Methodist Church with Rev. Gary Maskell officiating. Mary Lou Martin was organist. Arrangements by Frazer’s Funeral Home. Active pallbearers were Tommy Burrow, Bobby Bradford, Billy Watson, Brice Clay, Jim Wheeler, John Cuthbertson, Odell Wolfe and John Kidwell. Honorary pallbearers were Howard Bennett, Jim Gardner, Bobby Joe Clements, Steve Lasiter, Curry Martin, Dr. Kerry Pennington, Dr. Joe H. Wharton, Dewayne Ashcraft, Ken Simmons, Tom Colvin, Jimmie Butler, Howard Butler, John McClellan, Frank Chancellor, Joe Stephens, Paul Martin and Norman Word. Memorials preferred Bradley County Medical Center Hospital Auxiliary or the Chancel Choir Fund of the First United Methodist Church.
