Command Sergeant Major (Ret) Luther P. James age 78, of Warren, Ark. died Saturday, July 01st at his home. He was born August 26, 1927 in Kerrville, Texas a son of the late Luther J. James and Mary Peart James. He retired as owner and operator of James Glass and Body for 30 years, worked for Blankinship Ford motor company and Hargis Brothers motor company, served in the United States Navy during WWII and retired from the Arkansas National Guard, 153rd Infantry Division with 32 years of service. Luther was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, a Free and Accepted Mason Lodge #33 and a Camp 13 hunting club member. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary Veazey James, whom he married April 25, 1953 in Warren, Ark. 2 daughters, Jennie James, Warren, Ark. and Paula Lewis and spouse Randell, Warren, Ark. 1 sister Bettye Roebuck, Conway, Ark. 3 grandchildren, Mackenzie Barrett, James Lewis and Haley Lewis all of Warren, Ark. Funeral services were 4:00 p.m. Monday July 3, Frazerís Chapel with Rev. Wayman Mann and Rev. Craig Jenkins officiating. Janice Sullivan was organist and soloist was Haley Lewis. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery by Frazerís Funeral Home. Active pallbearers were Freddie Mobley, Doug Sullivan, Jimmy Sledge, Haley Lewis (for James Lewis), Bruce Sullivan, Mike Veazey and Ken Roebuck. Honorary pallbearers were Eugene Sullivan, Gene Veazey, II., Charlie Ezell, Ronnie Lanier, James Doggett, Richard Savage, Charles OíNeal and Dr. Joe H. Wharton. Memorials preferred. Bradley County Veterans Museum, Immanuel Baptist Church and El Dorado Community Hospice.
