Roy A. Gates, age 91, of Warren, Arkansas died Thursday, April 27, at Wagnon Place Nursing Home. He was born October 22, 1914 at Lanark, Arkansas a son of the late Dave Gates and Epsie Castleberry Gates. He was a retired foreman for the East Bay Municipal Utility, Berkley, Calif. and a long time member, deacon and Sunday school superintendent of First Freewill Baptist Church. He married Myrtlee Robertson Gates on Jan 9, 1937 and she died January 22, 2002. Surviving is a daughter Joyce Haynes and spouse Joe, Warren, Ark; 1 brother Aubrey Gates and spouse Betty, Port Richey, Fla; 2 grandchildren Larenda Green and Steven Haynes and spouse Dee, both of Warren, Ark. 7 Great grandchildren. A brother J. O. Gates, a sister Versie McDougald and a granddaughter Raylean Haynes Temple also preceded him in death. Funeral services were 10:00am Saturday, April 29, at Frazerís Chapel by Rev. Billy Wilson and Rev. Joel Simpson. Jonadlyn Reep played and sang. Burial was in Marsden Cemetery near Hilo by Frazerís Funeral Home. Active pallbearers were Jimmy Reep, Terry Kitchens, R. L. Gates, Bobby McDougald, Damon Parker and Randy Boyd. Honorary pallbearers were Millard Adams, Doyle Gates, Ricky Rauls, Randy Nutt, Tommy Green, Dr. Joe H. Wharton, MD and members of the First Freewill Baptist Church Sunday School Class.
