Versle P. McKinney, age 89, of Warren died Wednesday January 14, at BCMC. Born September 26, 1914 in Cleveland County a son of the late Samuel Nick McKinney and Mildred Childress McKinney he was a retired logging contractor for Potlatch Corporation for 25 plus years, member and deacon Calvary Baptist Church, World War II Disabled Navy veteran, retired volunteer fireman for the City of Warren and an avid fisherman. Also, preceding him in death were brothers Lewis McKinney, Gaston McKinney, Clois McKinney and Doyle McKinney. Survivors are his wife Ardelia Harrelson McKinney whom he married June 23, 1940. 1 son Ted McKinney of Ruston, La. 1 daughter Barbara Womble of Warren. 3 brothers Winford McKinney of Sumpter, Clifton McKinney of Warren and Robert McKinney of Seattle, WA. 1 sister Ruth McKinney Gavin of Warren. 4 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were 1:30 p.m. Friday January 16, Frazerís Chapel with Rev. Arlis East and Rev. Tee Don White officiating. Paige Grider was organist and soloist was Bob Haygood. Burial was in Moseley Cemetery near Warren by Frazerís Funeral Home. Active pallbearers were John Barry Womble, Ryan Eric Womble, Randy McKinney, Ryan McKinney, Jearl Gavin, Klay McKinney and James Kitchens. Honorary pallbeares were Deacons of Calvary Baptist Church. Memorials preferred Bradley County Veteranís Museum or Calvary Baptist Church.
