Howard Ransom Smith, age 88, of New Edinburg died Sunday January 25, at his home. Born February 23, 1915 in Cleveland County a son of the late Edwin Eugene Smith and Kizzie Frances Dean Smith he was a retired Cleveland County Deputy Sheriff, a mechanic, member New Edinburg United Methodist Church, member Huey Lodge # 78 F. & A.M. for 50 plus years and the widower of Mildred Elizabeth Phillips Smith who died July 20, 2002. They were united in marriage March 5, 1936. Also, preceding him in death was a son Howard Wayne Smith who died April 1, 1987. Survivors are 2 daughters Sue Sanchez of Sheridan and Frances Langford of New Edinburg. 10 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 4 great-greatgrandchildren. Funeral services were 3:30 p.m. Wednesday January 28, at First United Methodist Church in New Edinburg with Rev. A.D. Livingston and Rev. John Kidwell officiating. Karen Thompson was pianist. Soloist were Karen Thompson, Dena Chancellor and Gene Stacks. Burial was New Edinburg Cemetery by Frazerís Funeral Home of Warren. Active pallbearers were Jason Smith, Marvin King, Don Triplett, Danny Thompson, Rick St. John and Lee Jones. Honoary pallbearers were Curtis Denton, Aubrey Huddleston, Jim Granderson and male members of New Edinburg United Methodist Church.
