Verna Mae Byrd Swinney, age 86, of Rye, Arkansas died Sunday, April 25, at Wagnon Place Nursing Home, Warren. She was born April 23, 1918 in Cleveland County, Arkansas a daughter of the late Carl Byrd and Maggie Yarbrough Byrd. She was a homemaker, a member of the Enon Missionary Baptist Church and choir and an Enon Sunday school teacher. She was the widow of J. J. Swinney who died November 19, 1995. Surviving are 4 sons Marlyn Swinney, Hope, Ark, Melton Swinney and spouse Betty and Wendol Swinney and spouse Glenda all of Rison, Ark. and Landol Swinney and spouse Barbara both missionaries in Australia; 3 daughters Janet Liles and spouse Jackie, Searcy, Ark, Joy Young, Little Rock, Ark. and Betty Chapman and spouse Vic, Warren, Ark; 1 brother Glen Byrd, White Hall, Ark; 15 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. She was also preceded in death by a brother Floyd Byrd and a sister Ruby Wood. Funeral services were 4:00 pm Tuesday, April 27, at Enon Missionary Baptist Church at Rye by Rev. George Raley and Rev. Jack Spencer. Sybil Vinson was the pianist and Terry Young led the Enon Choir in song. Burial was in Union Cemetery at Rye by Frazerís Funeral Home of Warren. Active pallbearers were Everett West, Terry Young, Willie J. Young, Albert West, Tommie Tooke and Mark Vinson. Honorary pallbearers were Floys Taylor, Floyd Dale Young, J. B. Boston and Dr Kerry Franklin Pennington. Memorials preferred to Enon Parking Lot Fund, 20500 US Highway 63 North, Rison, Arkansas 71665.
