Bailey Mack Hargis
Funeral Date: 7/26/2015

Obituary:
Bailey Mack Hargis entered his Heavenly home on July 24, 2015. He passed from this life at home at 89 years of age with his wife, Frances at his side. Being wheelchair bound and then bedfast for several years, his family takes comfort in knowing that he is now Ďwalkingí with his Savior, Jesus Christ. Bailey Mack was born August 22, 1925 to John and Lillie Hargis at their home in Eagle Lake, AR. He was preceded in death by 2 baby brothers on October 28, 1927 and September 13, 1940. His father John Noel Hargis died on June 2, 1943 and his 18 year old sister, Arlie June Hargis on May 22, 1947. Bailey Mack assisted his mother in rearing 4 sisters due to his fatherís early death when Bailey Mack was 17 years old. His mother Lillie Estelle Colvin Hargis passed on April 7, 1988. To his disappointment he was not allowed in service during WWII because he was the only son of a mother who had 4 young daughters. He helped to support his family as a teenager by farming and carrying produce to Little Rock to sell at the Farmerís Market when he was old enough to drive and before there was a tomato market in Bradley County. Bailey Mack went to school at Eagle Lake in a one-room school house until his senior year at which time his father entered him into the Warren High School because of changes in the Eagle Lake School and he wanted his son to have the best education. Bailey Mack lived at the Coker Hotel in Warren where he served as the bell hop during his senior year to pay for his stay. It was told by several of his classmates that the young girls would stroll by the big window at the Coker Hotel to see the good-looking new comer. At 24 on July 9, 1949, he married Frances Jones Hargis and enjoyed 66 years of marriage. He farmed and raised cattle as well as his public job with Potlatch and overseer of the Hardy Family timber. He worked tirelessly caring for his cattle and was one of the forerunners of the Saline Ouachita Valley Livestock Auction and was an active board member for numerous years. He served on the Hermitage Tomato Board for many years and in 1984, The Bailey Mack Hargis Family was the Farm Family of the Year. In 1989-90, Bailey Mack was awarded the Mike Belin Humanitarian Award by the Hermitage Lionís Club. In 1995-96 he was presented with the Melvin Jones Fellow Award for his dedicated humanitarian services by the Lionsí Clubs International Foundation. And known only by his close family, Bailey Mack anonymously cared for the elderly and the unfortunate as well as countless deeds of service. He put in hundreds of hours building the baseball field in Hermitage and was instrumental in starting the rural water system in Southeast Bradley County. Bailey Mack Hargis was a dedicated member of the Ingalls United Methodist Church which later combined with the Hermitage United Methodist. He was a trustee and served on numerous church committees. On his sick bed in his later days he would ask for help with getting dressed so he could go to church. Only his Lord came before his family. Survivors include his loving wife, Frances Jones Hargis of Hermitage; two daughters, Phyllis Belin and husband George of Branson, Missouri; Sandra Hargis York of Hermitage; 3 sisters, Sonya Knowles and husband Claude of Ingalls, AR, Twila Whiteley and husband C.
