Randall "Randy" Simmons

Randall Clyde “Randy” Simmons, age 62, of Gurnee, Illinois died Friday, February 13, at Advocate Condell Medical Center, Libertyville, Illinois. He was born April 17, 1952 in Warren, Arkansas, a son of the late Harry Leslie Simmons and Carrie Sue Hamaker Simmons. He received his education in the Pine Bluff and Banks Public School Systems and held an MBA from Bristol University and BA from Columbia College. Randy was a decorated Chief Warrant Officer with 24 years of service in the United States Army specializing in personnel. He also retired from Northeastern Illinois University where he worked in the personnel and information technology departments. Randy’s world revolved around his family and friends and he was also a devoted veteran. He loved to make people laugh. Randy enjoyed hunting, golf, Cubs games, camping in his RV with Terrie, traveling, restoring his 1984 Corvette with his best friends Mike & Cathie, riding his motorcycle, skiing, and scuba diving. He volunteered for many years at Illinois Beach State Park. He was a past president of the Gurnee Rotary Club. He is survived by his wife Terrie Nolan Simmons, whom he married on July 30, 1976 in Banks, Arkansas; 2 daughters Katrina Leight and spouse Mark, Lake in the Hills, Illinois and Cynthia Simmons, Salem, Wisconsin; a brother Ralph Simmons, Banks, Arkansas; 2 sisters Brenda Jones and spouse Ronnie, Watson Chapel, Arkansas and Tina McClain and spouse David, Warren, Arkansas; 4 grandchildren Sierra Simmons, Summer Leight, Nicholas Leight, Jr. and Rydr Simmons. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Leslie Wayne Simmons. Funeral services were 1:30PM Saturday, February 21st at Frazer’s Chapel with Rev. Tony Rinehart, Terry Ederington and Johnny Nolan officiating. Linda Barrett was organist and Brianna Jones and Rev. Tony Rinehart were soloist. Burial with Military Honors was in Pigeon Hill Cemetery near Moro Bay, Arkansas by Frazer’s Funeral Home. Active pallbearers were member of U.S. Army Honors Team. Honorary pallbearers were Johnny Nolen, Rickey Nolan, Adam Nolan, Chris Jones, Corey McClain, Michael Costello, Ronnie Jones and Terry Ederington. Memorials preferred to the Spondylitis Association of America (SAA) or the American Heart Association.
