Message: I lost by best friend ever Gary McFarland. He was a true and great friend for me during my eighteen years of growing up in Banks. He was loved by me and my grandmother, Miss Ethel, who worked in the store many years. She thought Gary could do no wrong. So for me not having Gary or the store to visit on my trips back to Banks will be truly sad. He was a Banks soul through and through. Loved his town and people. So my dear friend, rest in peace and know you will be forever missed not only by me but many many fellow Banks natives.

Message: I am saddened by Gary's passing. I grew up in Banks and have known Gary all of my life. My mother's family (Pumphrey) had a very long association with the McFarland Family. When they migrated to Bradley County they settled in Banks and bought their land from Mr. Auburn McFarland. They continue to trade with Mr. Curtis and Miss. Claudie, and then Gary. For me, His passing marks the end of an era. My condolences to Gary's family. I will miss Mr. Gary McFarland.
