Harvey L. Jones

Harvey L. (Lavaughn) Jones, known as “Buster” by family members of Warren AR, born September 29, 1934, at Bear House Creek, Drew County, Arkansas, homesteaded by his parents, passed away unexpectedly at UAMS on Thursday, May 9. He graduated from Drew Central High School and A & M College (now UAM), both in Monticello, Arkansas. He was retired from Farm Bureau Insurance, where he worked for more than 25 years, as agency manager in Bradley County, Arkansas. Earlier careers were in car sales for Hollis Ford Motor Company and Lucky Chevrolet, both in McGehee, Arkansas. He was a volunteer firefighter while in college and served in the National Guard. His great loves in life were hunting and fishing of all kinds. His family often teased him that Farm Bureau was his hobby, and hunting and fishing were his career! He was a member of First Baptist Church in Warren, Arkansas. Left to cherish his memory are daughters Lavana (Lee) Kindle of Camden, Arkansas, Becky (Jim) Settlemyer of Portland, Oregon, and Susie (Gary) Khoury of Greers Ferry, Arkansas; brother Carson (Lydia) Jones, Sr. of Conroe, Texas, sisters Patsy (Eldon) Gillespie of Noble, Oklahoma, and Martha Varitek of Weirton, West Virginia; granddaughters Leah (Jerry) Kirksey of Camden, Arkansas, and Laren Brumley of Nashville, Tennessee; and great granddaughters Allison, Layla, Haven, and Anne Marie Kirksey of Camden, Arkansas. He was preceeded in death by both parents, John Austin Jones and Willie Frances Herring Jones, and eight brothers and sisters. Memorial services were 10:00 a.m. Monday May 13, at Frazer’s Funeral Home with Rev. Greg Stanley officiating. Musicians were Joye Splawn, Leah Kindle Kirksey, Glenda Gabbie and Lauren Kindle Brumley. Honorary pallbearers were Carson Jones, SR., James, Mark and Steve Gabbie, Curtis Blankenship, Jr., Bruce, Dr. David and Paul Cash, Charlie Burchfield, Harold McCormick, Dr. Lance Audirsch, Dr. Jimmy, Dr. Bill and John Morrison and Dr. Ed Barlow. Burial was in Centerpoint Cemetery near Collins, Arkansas. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, the Gideons International, or the National Rifle Association.
