Obituary:
Lavern Hairston Smith, age 93, of Hermitage, AR. died Thursday November 15, at Cherry Ridge Nursing & Rehabilitation in Bastrop, LA. Born February 25, 1919 in Marsden, AR. a daughter of the late Jeffery Hairston and Lora Langston Hairston she was a homemaker, retired farmer, member of Eagle Lake Crossroads Baptist Church and the widow of Bailey Winston Smith who died July 18, 1974. They were united in marriage June 5, 1937. Also, preceding her in death was a brother Dwain Hairston, sisters Nell Alexander, Martell Hairston a great grandson Thomas Alexander, son in law Keith Winbury. Survivors are 2 daughters Yvonne Belin and spouse Lamar, Bastrop, LA. and Carolyn Winbury, Bryant, AR. 1 brother Kyle Hairston, Monroe, LA., 4 grandchildren Gay Girod, Queen City, TX., Steve Belin, Crossett, AR., Tracy Winbury, Bryant, AR., Kimberly Abdelal, Mablevale, AR., 2 great-grandchildren Severen Girod, Little Rock, Ar., Tara Rape, Texarkana, AR. Funeral services were 1:30p.m. Sunday November 18, Frazerís Chapel with Rev. Wayman Mann officiating. Janice Sullivan was organist. Burial was in Marsden Cemetery by Frazerís Funeral Home. Active pallbearers were Joe Owens, Ronnie Bethea, Charley Rauls, Don Hamilton, Randy Clanton and Robert Johnson.
