Joe Gordon “Sonny Boy” Neal, age 86, of Jackson, Tenn. formerly of Hermitage, Ark. died Sunday, August 21, at Forest Cove Manor, Jackson. He was born September 3, 1924 at Ingalls, Ark. a son of the late John Shaw Neal and Kathleen Smith Neal. He was a graduate of Hermitage High School. He was a US Army veteran serving in the European theater during World War II and was awarded 4 Bronze Stars. Mr. Neal was a retired cotton buyer for Anderson Clayton & Company and Bemis Company. He was a member of Lambuth Memorial Methodist church for over 50 years. Surviving is his wife Virginia Jackson Neal whom he married on May 1, 1943 at Brewton, Alabama; a son John G. Neal and wife Connie, Plainview, Ark; a daughter Jo Ann Brosell and husband Lee, Meridian, Miss; a sister Mary Blanche Patrick, Monticello, Ark; a grandson Joshua Gordon Neal, Cordova, Tenn; 3 nephews Charles E. Moore, Beebe, Ark, Lloyd G. Moore, Little Rock, Ark. and Neal Moore, Maumelle, Ark. and 1 niece Mary K. Woodruff, Bauxite, Ark. Funeral services were 2:00pm Friday, August 26, at Frazer’s Chapel with Rev. Marty Reep officiating. Linda Barrett was organist and Lloyd G. Moore was soloist. Burial with flag presentation ceremony was in Neal Cemetery near Hermitage by Frazer’s Funeral Home of Warren. Active pallbearers were Charles E. Moore, Lloyd G. Moore, Neal Moore and Lee Brosell.
