Olive Wise Paulus
Funeral Date: 8/12/2011

Obituary:
Olive Wise Paulus, age 87, of Warren, Arkansas, died Monday, August 8 at Hospice Home Care, Little Rock, Arkansas. She had lived in Little Rock for two years. Mrs. Paulus was born August 11, 1923, in Warren, a daughter of the late Ernest Lavelle Wise and Minnie Lee Stephens Wise. She was a graduate of the Warren Public School System and Sophie Newcomb College of Tulane University. She was a member, Elder, and Deacon of First Presbyterian Church and taught 2nd grade in the Warren Public Schools. She married E.F."Bebe" Paulus, Jr. on September 3, 1946, at the First Presbyterian Church of Warren, and he preceded her in death on May 29, 2004. If you ever dined at Olive Paulus' table you had a unique experience, no matter how many times you might have dined with her. She cared singularly about how she prepared the meal, your conversation, and the community created at the table. Her care for the experience at her table was reflected in her care for all of those in her life: her family - particularly her grandsons; her students; her church; and her many friends. Her love of a game - whether bridge, golf, or a board game -- would bring a sense of fun to the activity, but you knew you also had a serious competitor on your hands. She will be missed by all those who were privileged to enjoy her food, her fun, and her caring. She is survived by two sons: Tom Paulus, MD and spouse Jan, and Mike Paulus and spouse Jo, all of Little Rock, AR; one daughter: Lee Leming and spouse Jim, of Swarthmore, PA; four grandchildren: George Leming and spouse Tara, of Philadelphia, PA; Chad Leming and spouse Toni, of New Orleans, LA; Matthew Paulus, of New York, NY; and Stephen Paulus MD, of Kansas City, MO. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Martha Wise and Jeannette Mosley. Memorial services were 1:30 pm Friday, August 12, at First Presbyterian Church in Warren with Rev. Steve Hancock officiating. Janice McAllister was organist. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery by Frazerís Funeral Home of Warren. Active pallbearers were George Leming, Chad Leming, Stephen Paulus, Matthew Paulus, Cliff Morgan, Bill Thomason, Bryan Martin and Sam Paulus. Honorary pallbearers were Sam Fullerton and Larry Derby. Memorials preferred to First Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 212 East Church Street, Warren, AR, 71671, or Bradley County Medical Center Foundation, 404 South Bradley Street, Warren, AR, 71671.

Message: Lee,Tom,Mike, and families. You were so fortunate to have your mother for so long. I lost my mother 24 years ago when I was only 40; my brother Martin was only 31. I knew your mother well both growing up and as an adult going to many circle meetings in your family home. I remember how nice both she and your Dad decorated the home for Christmas. She was a "class act." I remember her going back to teaching and preparing for her classes. She visited with me about this. People like your Mom encouraged me in my educational endeavors. She will be missed.
