Maxie Lee Meeks Overton, age 80, of Warren, Arkansas died Tuesday, November 9, at Bradley County Medical Center. She was born July 16, 1924 at Rye, Arkansas a daughter of the late Albert Noral Meek and Vira Ellen McMahon Meek. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and Dorcus Sunday School Class. She was affectionally referred to as “Granny” by her family and friends. She cared for children in her home for many years and as manager of Granny’s House Day Care, Pasadena, Texas. She was honored as Pasadena Granny of the Year. She married Lloyd Overton on December 18, 1943 and he preceded her in death. Surviving is 3 daughters Wanda DeGroot and spouse Ed, Peru, Ill, Henrietta, Carter, Warren, Ark. and Jane McDonald and spouse Jack, Houston, Tex. and Amman, Jordan; 1 brother Edwin Meek, Myrtle Point, Ore; 1 sister Joan Ruffiner, North Little Rock, Ark; 9 grandchildren Sandra DeGroot, Ed DeGroot, Scott DeGroot and spouse Gena, Cathy Withers, Cyndi Proffitt and spouse Chris, Lloyd McDonald, Danette Haines and spouse Malcolm, Jim McDonald and spouse Sarah and Robert “Bo” Leach and spouse Marcia; 13 great grandchildren. A daughter Margie Lenora Leach and 2 brothers Verner Meek and Ben Meek also preceded her in death. Funeral services were 10:00 am Friday, November 12, at Frazer’s Chapel by Rev. Craig Jenkins. Janice Sullivan was the organist and Melanie Jenkins the soloists. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery by Frazer’s Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Ed DeGroot, Scott DeGroot, Bo Leach, John Ruffiner, Paul McGinness and John Meek. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. David Chambers, MD, Paul Harton and Roger Shellby. Memorials preferred to Immanuel Baptist Church Building Fund, Warren.
